Three Generations

Three generations of Crosby farmers are committed to producing sustainably. As passionate stewards of the land, they work hard to leave waterways, vegetation and soils in better condition for future generations.

It’s all about family, good animal welfare, contributing to the local community, and ensuring that farming is economically viable for future generations.

Green Valley Lamb

Our Sheep

The original family farm of Green Valley is situated near Frankland in the South West of Western Australia. Green Valley farm is owned and operated by Robert and Cheryl Crosby who have been sheep farming for over 40 years. The Crosby’s are known for breeding predominately merinos for wool and also x bred lambs for meat.

Robert and Cheryl's son Darren grew up on the Crosby family farm learning from “on farm experience”. Darren worked on the family farm and also on neighbouring properties. Darren was educated at Narrogin Agriculture Collage.

Green Valley Lamb was established in 2010 by Darren and Tammy.

We are based in Manjimup with our children Katie and Josh. We lease a number of farms scatted throughout the South West. The region is perfect for raising x bred lambs for meat because of the rich soils and ample rainfall which grows the best pasture for sheep feed.

Darren’s passion is to produce top quality x bred lambs by using Multipurpose Merino ewe’s and Border Leister rams to produce a First cross Border Leister mums. Darren believes that breeding lambs from the first cross Border Leister mums over the Poll Dorset ram produces a quality meat lamb.

The lambs are grazed in large paddocks with their mums until they are old enough to be weaned. Once weaned this is at about 16 weeks the lambs are moved to fresh pasture to finish the lamb off to be at the precise weight for local butchers.

Multi purpose merino (MPM)

The MPM is known for its higher quality genetics in wool and lambs, MPM have a higher fertility rate (ability to have twins), a large milk production and the ability for lambs to mature earlier. MPM’s also have longer bodies for extra weight and Leaner meat.

Poll Dorset

The Poll Dorset is a Short wool, meat producing animal. Poll Dorset’s are more suitable for our weather conditions. Poll Dorset’s are excellent mothers with a high lambing percentage and early maturing. The Poll Dorset are the most popular breed for the production of prime lambs in Australia because of their larger, longer and leaner bodies.

Our lambs are grass fed, which means that the lambs are free to graze grass (clover, rye grass, kikuyu) in large paddocks all year round.
